On the Road to the Chute-Out

Monday May 9, 2005
Guymon Pioneer Days in Guymon, Oklahoma is the last stop on the Wrangler ProRodeo Winter Tour. It's the last chance for many competitors to qualify for the Pace Picante Chute-Out held in Reno, Nevada this year. Only the top 12 in each event will head on to Reno.

The winners of the 72nd Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo are:
  • Bareback: Matt Mosher (tour round and aggregate)
  • Steer Wrestling: Chad Van Campen (tour and aggregate)
  • Team Roping: Jake Barnes & Kory Koontz (tour round) with Nelson Linares & Walt Woodard (aggregate). Both teams qualified for the Chute-Out.
  • Saddle Bronc: Glen O'Neill (tour and aggregate)
  • Tie-down Roping: Stran Smith (tour and aggregate)
  • Barrel Racing: Shali Lord (tour and aggregate)
  • Bull Riding: Steve Woolsey (tour and aggregate)
The story of the rodeo was O'Neill, who missed last years NFR due to an injury (read the related Blog for more info) suffered at the Pace Picante Challenge. He drew the same horse, Big Jet, that broke his leg. This time O'Neill set a 91-point arena record with both legs intact. He tipped his hat to his worthy opponent after the ride.

The biggest mover who earned a spot among the top 12 was 2004 World Champion Bull Rider Dustin Elliott, who moved from a surprising 26th to a tie for the 10th spot.

See the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour Standings from the ProRodeo Website for a complete listing.

The Winter Tour wraps with the Pace Picante Chute-Out, June 17th-18th. The Summer Tour kicks off with the Reno Rodeo, June 19th-25th.
