Banned in New York?

Wednesday August 30, 2006
Leave it to a New York Politician to try to ban the use of the flank strap in the city in an attempt to stop the PBR's kick-off event from happening next year. Councilman Tony Avella gets the "I don't know anything what-so-ever about animals but feel confident enough in my ignorance to attack a whole culture" Award for this quote of his from the New York Magazine..."The bull doesn't react this way on its own." WRONG Mr. Avella!

The bovine and equine (that's cattle and horses to you 'animal rights' people) members of the animal kingdom buck. It's just a pure simple fact. The flank strap doesn't make them buck - it makes them buck consistently. To state otherwise would be like saying that a leash makes a dog walk. A leash makes a dog walk consistently (or under control).

Now I'm granting you that without the flank strap the bucking would be inconsistent and not the most exciting thing to watch, but the animals would still buck - those of us who've actually been around animals know this. This is another instance of PeTA style logic creeping into the mainstream. PeTA who last year alone killed more animals than rodeo ever could if it tried.

New Yorkers need to rise up against this guy and show politicians that they are accountable for any nutty and just-plain wrong positions they adopt. It's easy to take a stance against something when you know absolutely ZERO about it!
