Is the Cowboy a Dying Breed?

Not if you ask the Junior High Division of the National High School Rodeo Association which experienced 30% growth this year. The Junior division is relatively new and lets sixth, seventh and eighth graders get in on the NHSRA action. Young cowboys and cowgirls from the U.S., Canada and Australia battle it out for a national championship.
"We will continue to see records being set in the years to come," said Jared Higby, marketing director for the NHSRA. "Not only are these young contestants getting more and more competitive, but the Wrangler Division is still very young and will continue to grow in both numbers and talent." If the ranks are growing at the junior level, they will feed into the High School level, which will undoubtedly feed into the College and Professional ranks. The growth is an exciting thing as the NHSRA provides a great opportunity for young cowboys and cowgirls to rodeo. And if you think you need to live on a ranch or in an extreme rural area, think again. If your child has a competitive spirit, love of animals and an interest in the cowboy ethic then check out membership in the NHSRA, you might just have a potential rodeo superstar on your hands.
