Where is the Cowboy Capital of the World?

By August 3, 2008

Oakdale, California kept its title as "Cowboy Capital of the World" by beating out Stephenville, Texas, in a fund-raising raffle run in conjunction with the National Day of the Cowboy. Oakdale sold 1,824 tickets at $10 apiece and Stephenville sold 1,671 in a benefit for the Oakdale Cowboy Museum. Under terms of the friendly contest, Oakdale has exclusive rights to the title Cowboy Capital for the next year. (Courtesy of the PRCA)

I beleive Oakdale nor Stephenville are the Cowboy Capital of the world. Cheyenne Wyoming is the biggest cowboy town bar none.

To Jack:
I think it’s the quality not the quantity… but then I’m biased and from that general area in California.

To Kelley:
Cheyenne is definitely a solid cowboy town but will they throw their hat into the arena for the title? They already have the “Daddy of ‘Em All” moniker.

Perhaps the title should rotate? LOL

(6) TX vs WY says:

Texas is a sport cowboy capital, Wyoming is the real cowboy capital. Texas no doubt has plenty of cow, horses, and people that dress the part, but Wyoming still lives the life of a true cowboy, cattle drives and the whole get-up! These are the facts!!! Whether you like Texas or Wyoming, there is a difference from the sport cowbooy and the true cowboy.
