2012 was a record-breaking year at the National Finals Rodeo. While many rodeo fans are still reveling in the memories of the of this year's NFR, serious competitors have been hard at work earning money to make it to the 2013 Finals. The rodeo season officially ends on September 30th, and any prize money won after that cutoff goes towards the next year's earnings totals. A number of big rodeos happen after the first of the year, including the following:
National Western Stock Show and Rodeo, January 17th-27th, 2013.
Southwestern Exhibition and Livestock Show, January 24th - February 9th, 2013
Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo, January 26th - February 2nd, 2013
San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, February 7th-23rd, 2013
These major expositions feature the best rodeo competitors in the world, including saddle bronc riders, bareback riders, bull riders, tie-down ropers, team ropers, steer wrestlers and barrel racers. Large rodeos such as these often pay in the thousands for a winning run, making them hotspots for serious competitors. With a little luck, you may even spot World Champions such as Fred Whitfield and Luke Branquinho. A day at one of these major events is truly time well wasted.
