Cold weather may not be ideal for bull riders, but the chill in the air sure worked well for bull rider Chandler Bownds. He had an incredible run at Odessa's SandHill Stock Show and Rodeo, and it was capped off by a thrilling 89 point ride aboard the big Andrew's Rodeo bull jaw Bender. Bownds said Jaw Bender is, "a bull I've wanted to have the chance to ride for a while," and Odessa was his chance.
Coming from where he was a year ago, Bownds never imagined he'd put up such huge numbers. The former Resistol PRCA Bull Riding Rookie of the Year and Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier was plagued by injuries and surgery in recent months, but he's on the road to recovery in a big way. His win at Odessa was worth a little over $5,600, a nice payday for an 8-second ride.
Other big winners at the SandHill Stock Show and Rodeo included: bareback riders Bobby Mote and Jake Halverson, who tied with matching 86-point rides, Erich Rogers and Corey Petska in the team roping category, steer wrestler Todd Suhn, steer roper Cody Lee, tie-down winner Blair Burk, and barrel racers Fallon Taylor and Kenna Squires, who both ran the course in 14.14 seconds.
