Barrel Racing Questions Continue
Friday September 8, 2006
A PSN interview with PRCA Commissioner Troy Ellerman attempts to answer those questions. Meanwhile the WPRA has released a National Call to Action and accuses the PRCA of propaganda.
Personally, I am disappointed in how contentious this issue has become. Tucson, for example, stands behind the WPRA, so will we see a pick and choose by each individual rodeo committee? Will barrel racers truly be full members in the PRCA? Will this fracture the barrel racing and/or rodeo community irreparably? Time will tell...

Doubtful barrel racers will be full card holders in PRCA .. just in the subsidiary… Being full PRCA card holders could eventually lead to barrel racers competing in other events … many are already pretty good team ropers … and then qualfying for the all around. Not a bad thing, but probably not in the cards yet.
We haven’t heard much from the companies that sponsor top barrel racers so we don’t know what leverage they have in all this.
You are probably right about the full card status. It seems that the PRCA wants to control its own ship rather than dealing with the WPRA (to bad that it had to come to this).
I might take some heat on this but would it be so bad to have women competing alongside men at the top levels, at least in the timed-events?
If a female can head or heel and the times are coming up in the four’s…why not?
