Ralph's Rodeo BlogHopeful for a repeat: Etbauer and Johnson tie in Guymon(Courtesy of the PRCA) - If history repeats itself, saddle bronc riders Billy Etbauer and Chet Johnson could be in for quite a run later this year. By tying for the title at the Guymon (Okla.) Pioneer Days Rodeo, May 2-4 at Henry C. Hitch Arena, the two hope to repeat the success of last year’s co-champions, Taos Muncy and Rod Hay, who eventually finished 1-2 in the final world standings.
Etbauer, 45, the five-time world champion saddle bronc rider from Edmond, Okla., and Johnson, 27, a two-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier, each recorded 87-point rides to share the title in Guymon. Etbauer, the leader in the Crusher Rentals PRCA World Standings and on his way to a record 20th straight Wrangler NFR, rode Powder River’s Smoke Jumper, while Johnson matched the score on Powder River’s Pearl Jam.
