Miss Rodeo USA is the representative of the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA) and is crowned every year at the culminating event of the IPRA schedule, the International Finals Rodeo or IFR.

The purpose of Miss Rodeo USA from the official website (www.missrodeousa.com):

"Miss Rodeo USA travels the country promoting the sport of rodeo and is a role model for the youth of today. Additionally the Miss Rodeo USA program provides career advancement and scholarship awards to young women competing in the pageant to further their educational and career goals."

Kristin Scott was chosen out of 10 worthy competitors and crowned as Miss Rodeo USA during Round 3 of the International Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. She is a native of Anderson, Alabama and entered the pageant as Miss Limestone Sheriffs Rodeo.

This short interview was conducted shortly after her crowning.

About Rodeo: First of all congratulations from About Rodeo on becoming Miss Rodeo USA 2008.

Kristin Scott: Thank you so much. You know I got a lot of information from the About Rodeo Website to help me prepare for the pageant.

Rodeo: That's great. I hope you don't mind if you let my readers know that (laughs).

Kristin: Not at all.

Rodeo: So how does it feel to be the new Miss Rodeo USA?

Kristin: It feels absolutely overwhelming. I'm going through almost every emotion in the book right now. I'm excited to get started representing the IPRA and getting my message - "Branching Out!" - out there.

Rodeo: Branching out is your platform?

Kristin: Yes it is. Branching out is reaching out and getting Western Heritage out there to everybody. Rodeo is no longer confined to people who live on ranches and lead rural lifestyles. It is open to anyone with a competitive spirit and loves excitement. I want to encourage people to think outside the box and to get involved in new things and ideas. Basically encouraging young kids to try new things, meet new people and make new friends.

Rodeo: How did you get started in rodeo pageants?

Kristin: Well it was kind of a big joke. I was a tomboy in High School so I never thought I'd ever win anything like this (laughs). But being involved pulls out every good thing in a girl and it teaches you good values, confidence, public speaking and everything you need to succeed in life.

Rodeo: What are some of the highlights of running for Miss Rodeo 2008?

Kristin: Well winning the pageant is huge. It's a landmark for me and a dream come true.

Rodeo: What are you looking forward to in the next year?

Kristin: I'm looking forward to speaking to people about rodeo and the IPRA, sharing the morals and good values of the people involved. The family values are so strong and the passion of people behind the scenes is just great. I'm looking forward to the travelling and working with all the cowboys, cowgirls, and committees to help promote the sport.

Rodeo: What is your favorite event?

Kristin: I'm a barrel racer and barrel racing is where it's at for me. Fast horses and pretty girls – you can't beat it (laughs).

Rodeo: I agree with you there. What is your favorite breed of horse?

Kristin: Quarter Horses are my favorite. But I've been riding a paint horse and he's true and honest. I love him too.

Rodeo: What's his name?

Kristin: Frank

Rodeo: Do you have a favorite rodeo?

Kristin: I've worked with Bubba Oubre and the Oubre Rodeo Company at a lot of their events. They've helped me so much and they've treated me like family. They're the best and their events are my favorite.

Rodeo: Well I know that you are busy and I'd like to thank you for taking the time to talk to me. Once again congratulations on becoming Miss Rodeo USA.

Kristin: Thank you so much.
