Do I pronounce it 'ro-day-oh' or 'ro-dee-oh'? Which is correct?

By Ralph Clark, About.com

Question: Do I pronounce it 'ro-day-oh' or 'ro-dee-oh'? Which is correct?

I know what you're thinking...we're talking about the greatest sport on dirt not some street in Beverly Hills. But you'll be surprised to learn either one works. You say tomato and I say- tomato?

Answer: Technically both are correct. The word we use to describe cowboy competitions comes from the Spanish, rodear.

Pronouncing rodeo like "ro-day-oh" retains the Spanish flavor and origin and is preferred by certain events, like the California Rodeo in Salinas.

Most modern events prefer "ro-dee-oh" however, which I say would win in an either/or situation.
