2006 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo

Round 3 Highlights
Saturday, December 2nd

Bareback Riding:

Ride of the night was Will Lowe on Wild Woman who spun like a bull trying to dislodge her rider. Lowe continues to dominate the bareback riding event and if he continues his streak he will no doubt take home a third World Championship.

Round 3 Bareback Results:
1 Will Lowe - 85 points on Wild Woman
2 Bobby Mote - 84 on Kattle Kall
3 Cimmaron Gerke - 83.5 on Broadway
3 Paul Jones - 83.5 on South Point Casino
3 Tom McFarland - 83.5 on Gorgeous Connie
6 Jess Davis - 83 on Black Coffee

Steer Wrestling:

It was a solid round from the steer wrestlers as Luke Branquinho marked the quickest winning run of the week. Dru Melvin dislocated his shoulder after a missed bulldog. Jason Miller took two tries at his steer but couldn't make it work.

Round 3 Steer Wrestling Results:
1 Luke Branquinho - 3.5 seconds
2 Gabe Ledoux - 3.6
3 K.C. Jones - 3.7
4 Ronnie Fields - 3.9
5 Stockton Graves - 4.0
6 Dean Gorsuch - 4.3
6 Shawn Greenfield - 4.3

Team Roping:

It was another sloppy round for the team ropers but things did get a little better. Local favorites Jay and Randon Adams didn't start the round well posting a 25.6. Clay Tryan / Patrick Smith also posted a no-time after Clay's rope caught up under his horse's leg. Rich Skelton caught his steer but couldn't dally. Brady Minor fouled his rope on something (either the steer or his own horse) and posted a 17.1 for Team Tonozzi / Minor.

Round 3 Team Roping Results:
1 Chad Masters / Allen Bach - 4.3 seconds
2 Colter Todd / Cesar de la Cruz - 4.5
3 Charly Crawford / Cody Hintz - 4.7
4 Joe Beaver / Cole Bigbee - 4.9
6 Matt Sherwood / Walt Woodard - 5.0
6 Matt Funk / Bucky Campbell - 9.0

Saddle Bronc Riding:

It was another tough night for the bronc riders as half of them came down. Willert, Mortensen, and Etbauer all seemed ready but couldn't pull it off. Rusty Allen had the worst of it, taking a hoof to the side but came out with only a bruised gluteus (yeah I know, insert joke here). Chad Ferley was flagged for missing his mark-out but the replay seemed to show different. Tough call best left to the judges.

Round 3 Saddle Bronc Results:
1 Rod Hay - 87.5 points on Coffee Break
2 Cody DeMoss - 85.5 on Blue Too
3 Cody Martin - 84 on Miss Congeniality
3 Cody Wright - 84 on Cat Power
3 JJ Elshere - 84 on Surprise Power
6 Bryce Miller - 81.5 on MF4

Tie-down Roping:

The tie-down ropers have had much better luck than the team ropers have. Except maybe Cade Swor who thought he had a catch until his rope came loose from a shady catch. Hunter Herrin won the round but Cody Ohl, riding AQHA Tie-Down Horse of the Year – Luke, is making it tough for the other ropers to gain any ground on him.

Round 3 Tie-Down Results:
1 Hunter Herrin - 7.1
2 Joe Beaver - 8.2
3 Matt Shiozawa - 8.4
4 Trevor Brazile - 8.5
5 Scott Kormos - 8.6
6 Cody Ohl - 9.4

Barrel Racing:

The barrel racing is shaking at as the most competitive races in the NFR. The whole field has been turning in descent and competitive runs. Saturday night however belonged to Kelly Maben who picked up her second round win in a row.

Round 3 Barrel Racing Results:
1 Kelly Maben - 13.73 seconds
2 Terra Bynum - 13.79
3 Shelly Anzick - 13.88
4 Brandie Halls - 13.92
5 Mary Burger - 13.99
6 Kelly Kaminski - 14.05
6 Sherry Cervi - 14.05

Bull Riding:

Revenge of the Bulls in Round 3. After a dominating performance by the cowboys in the previous round, it was time for the bulls to show exactly why they belonged in the eliminator pen. The carnage of the night was redeemed a little by the only qualified ride of B.J. Schumacher.

Cooper Kanngiesser looked like he had a good ride going on Bo's Excuse until he was tossed and almost received a hooking. Bullfighter Joe Baumgartner can add another notch on his gun. J.W. Harris received a hoof in the rear courtesy of Seven of Hearts.

I know what you're thinking...who gets all that prize money when there is only one ride?

And the answer is B.J. Schumacher, who got to take home almost $50,000 in glory money, although only the 1st Place money counts toward the standings. Ain't it good to be a bull rider?

Round 3 Bull Riding Results:
1 B.J. Schumacher - 90 points on Western Hauler
