2006 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo

Round 5 Highlights
Monday, December 4th

Round 5 of the National Finals Rodeo sported the first ever pink bucking chutes in history. It wasn't only the bucking chutes however, but everything from chaps to sewn cowboy hat brims sporting the color pink for a real good cause. The Tough Enough To Wear Pink campaign was started to raise awareness for breast cancer research.

After starting in Round 4 of the 2004 NFR, the TETWP (Tough Enough To Wear Pink) campaign has been a resounding success with over 100 rodeos both big and small taking part by having contestants and fans prove that truly are tough enough to wear pink and help a worthy cause.

There were a lot of no-times for the steer wrestlers in Round 5. Lee Graves had to cowboy when he missed his steer but held a horn and wound up bulldogging from the off-side.

Team Roping:

We probably saw the best round of team roping thus far in the NFR. Hopefully this will be the turning point for the team ropers. Speed Williams and Clay Cooper finally showed their roping caliber by splitting the round win with Nick Sartain and Shannon Frascht.

Barrel Racing:

The ladies were dialed in as they inched under the 14 second mark. Kelly Maben was the story of the night, taking down another go-round win. This is her third in five rounds. Denise Adams had a scary moment as her horse almost went down around the first barrel. Both horse and rider are okay.

D.J. Domangue is out with an injury to his hip that will require surgery, which takes the field down to 12. The bull riders are looking haggard as the rounds continue. Steve Woolsey has everyone baffled as to why he hasn't covered a single bull.
