2006 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo

Round 9 Highlights
Friday, December 7th

Round 9 saw several cowboys clinching their perspective World Championships. Trevor Brazile has broken the single season earnings record set by Matt Austin in addition to taking home the All Around Cowboy World Championship.

Cody Ohl has wrapped up the 2006 World Champion Tie-Down title. Will Lowe will take home the 2006 Bareback Riding World Champion buckle having placed in 8 of 9 rounds and breaking the bareback earning records.

It was eliminator pen night in all the roughstock events and it showed as the battered and bruised tried to put together some decent rides on the rankest stock in rodeo.

Bareback Riding:

Will Lowe sits first in the standings and in the average. The bronc Commotion will be retired after this round to go and make more awesome bareback horses.

Round 9 Bareback Results:
1 Cimmaron Gerke - 83.5 points on Moulin Rouge
2 Tom McFarland - 81 on Painted Smile
3 Ryan Gray - 80.5 on Cool Water
4 Kelly Timberman - 79 on Tipped Off

The steer wrestling will come down to one steer between Luke Branquinho and Dean Gorsuch.

Round 9 Steer Wrestling Results:
1 Shawn Greenfield - 3.4
2 Jason Miller - 3.7
3 Lee Graves - 3.8
4 K.C. Jones - 4.0
5 Dru Melvin - 4.1

Round 9 Team Roping Results:

3 Matt Sherwood / Walt Woodard - 4.5
4 Chad Masters / Allen Bach - 4.9
5 Jay Adams / Randon Adams - 9.2
6 Charly Crawford / Cody Hintz - 9.5

Saddle Bronc Riding:

Rod Hay came down and ended his world title hopes. J.J. Elshere also bucked off so no bronc rider will ride all their broncs at this year's NFR. Jesse Bail had a chance to ride the unridden bronc Faded Star who fell in the arena but was ok. Bail got flung, as have all cowboys for the past two years who've tried to ride the rankest horse in rodeo.

Cody DeMoss probably shouldn't have tried to ride with his injury, the first duck and dive from his bronc sent him down into the dirt. Chad Fereley split first in the round and virtually sealed his championship title.

Round 9 Saddle Bronc Results:
1 Bradley Harter - 84 points on Sun Dance
1 Chad Ferley - 84 on Painted Feathers
3 Cody Martin - 80.5 on Billings
4 Bobby Griswold - 75 on Little Stone
5 Dan Mortensen - 74.5 on Home Run

Round 9 Tie-Down Results:

1 Clint Robinson - 7.3 seconds
2 Cody Ohl - 7.4

3 Cade Swor - 7.5
4 Blair Burk - 7.6
5 Trevor Brazile - 7.9
6 Joe Beaver - 8.2

Barrel Racing:

Only four ladies in the barrel racing have won rounds at the NFR, so going in the next to last round it was still open. Brandie Halls was one of those still in contention until she dropped a barrel and ended her World Championship hopes. Kelly Maben also dropped a barrel and took herself out of contention. Terra Bynum went wide on the first barrel once again.

Round 9 Barrel Racing Results:
1 Denise Adams - 13.86
2 Lindsay Sears - 13.87
3 Shelly Anzick - 13.89
3 Sherry Cervi - 13.89
5 Mary Burger - 13.90
6 Tana Poppino - 14.03

Bull Riding:

It was a rough night for the bull rider and bull fighters as the eliminator pen lived up to its reputation. Bullfighter Travis Adams, in for an injured Joe Baumgartner, saved Jarrod Craig from a hang up on Cooper.

As one after another of the bull riders came down, B.J. Schumacher gained in his title hopes and has clinched the coveted award of World Champion Bull Rider.

Round 9 Bull Riding Results:
1 Bobby Welsh - 85 points on Western Hauler
