2005 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo

Round 7 Highlights

Thursday, December 8th

Injuries and soreness are starting to take a toll on a lot of the competitors but the end is in sight. That light at the end of the tunnel is a big and shiny gold buckle. It finally happened; Ryan Jarrett has passed Trevor Brazile for first in the All-Around. Jarrett leads by about $2,155. I wouldn’t count Brazile out yet, it’s still a you-call-it, last man standing, final round shoot-out. God I love the west!

Bareback Riding:
College cowboy Ryan Gray rode Blue Steel (Burns Rodeo) for 85-points. The Texas Tech cowboy studies in his down time between rounds. I hope collecting his Round 7 paycheck doesn't interfere with studying for his final on Monday.
Bobby Mote and Wes Stevenson both riding Korkow broncs (Korczack and Haywire respectively) split for second with 83-point scores.
Average Leader- Kelly Timberman 586.5 / 7
Standings Leader- Will Lowe leads Ryan Gray by only 300 bucks.
Status of this race is squeaky close.

Steer Wrestling:
Trevor Knowles makes his first round win at 3.60.
Garrett Nokes and Shawn Greenfield split second with times of 3.80 seconds.
Ronnie Fields suffered a disastrous no-time which puts him out of the average race.
Average Leader- Lee Graves 26.80 / 7
Standings Leader- Graves leads Jason Lahr.
Status of this race is close.

Team Roping:
Trevor Brazile and Kory Koontz make another sweet win and split first with Wade Wheatley and Kyle Lockett. Both runs were 3.80 seconds.
Steve Purcella and Britt Bockius take down third with 4.00.
Average Leaders- Shane Schwenke and Jhett Johnson 49.00 / 7
Standings Leaders- Clay Tryan and Patrick Smith
Another squeaky close race.

Saddle Bronc Riding:
Billy Etbauer splits the round with 86.5 on Wasp (Stace Smith Pro Rodeo) with Rod Hay representing on Canadian night with a great ride on Slick Willie (Classic Pro Rodeo).
Jeffery Willert might have closed the door on the buckle with another top 3 ride of 86-points on Gallant Warrior (Calgary).
DeMoss takes a costly no score.
Average Leader- Rod Warren
Standings Leader- Jeffery Willert holds the lead and will take home the gold buckle (my prediction).

Tie-down Roping:
NFR rookie qualifier Matt Shiozawa posted the quickest time of the 2005 NFR at 7.00 seconds and took home his first round win.
All-Around contender Ryan Jarrett took second with a 7.70 run.
Trevor Brazile ticked in just below his rival with 7.80.
Average Leader- Blair Burk 60.50 / 7
Standings Leader- Fred Whitfield leads over Stran Smith.

Barrel Racing:
Kelly Kaminski and Rocky overtook Shali Lord and Slider in the standings with a 13.90 run in Round 7.
Liz Pinkston and Doc scorched their way into second with 13.97 on the clock.
Brittany Pozzi split with Shali Lord for spot three with a 14.03 second run.
Average Leader- Liz Pinkston and Doc 99.52 / 7
Standings Leader- Kelly Kaminski leads over Shali Lord by less than $1,500.

Bull Riding:
Bryan Richardson on Razor Sharp (Growney Brothers) with a 90-point ride.
Matt Austin on Satan’s Own with an 88.
Steve Woolsey on Kings Court at 87-points.
Cord McCoy comes back from a separated shoulder to make an 83-point ride.
Average Leader- Steve Woolsey 489 / 6
Standings Leader- Matt Austin

The action continues into the final rounds. Most races are close and may come down to the last ride and run on Sunday. For now we move to Round 8.
